Downtown Tupelo Lookin' Good

In early November of 2016, I was on my way home and stopped near Tupelo's Main Street to try out a new camera (a Canon PowerShot G7X Mark II).  I walked across Main Street from North Broadway and looked east.

It was near sunset, that time of day when the setting sun is reflected off the atmosphere and causes the air to "glow" in the east.  I snapped a couple of images, trying to time things right so that the traffic and stop lights worked with the composition I was going for.

Later, when I was looking at the image on my computer, I realized just how attractive our downtown had become, thanks to our Main Street Association.  This led to taking a further series of photographs over the extended Thanksgiving weekend.  The weather that weekend cooperated, for the most part, and here's the result.

Christmas decorations and streets wet with rain are a magical combination.  I took this photo the week after Thanksgiving.  It was the first real rain we'd had since the summer and was most welcome.
